Sheriff’s office, Turning Point complete joint training effort

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and Turning Point Domestic Violence Services recently completed joint training to better their important relationship. Both agencies continue to make domestic violence intervention a top priority in Bartholomew County.

Sheriff’s Office staff underwent training provided by Kathryn Miller, director of legal advocacy for Turning Point. This training centered around the role of Turning Point in the response to domestic violence incidents as well as the services provided by Turning Point.

Turning Point outlined not only their victim shelter services but also their advocacy services such as assistance in filing for protective orders.

Whittney Loyd, president of Turning Point said, “Turning Point is grateful for the positive partnership between our organizations and the respect and professionalism demonstrated by the sheriff’s office.

“Collaboration and continued education between our two entities are effective ways to strengthen our community response to incidents of domestic violence.”

Sheriff Chris Lane said, “Law enforcement partnerships with agencies such as Turning Point Domestic Violence Services are essential to improving the response to domestic violence incidents. Providing the best possible outcomes for domestic violence victims requires a comprehensive approach by both law enforcement and agencies that advocate on the part of the victim.”
