Donald Eugene Collier

LOUISVILLE

Donald Eugene Collier, age 78, passed away after a decades long battle with cancer on April 5th at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 9, 1944, in New Castle, Indiana, to Byron and Freda Collier, Don was a graduate of Wilkinson High School. He graduated from Indiana University with a degree in zoology, and from Purdue University with a degree in pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist in New Jersey, Florida, and Columbus, Indiana before moving to Richmond in 1976, where he continued his career with Hook’s Drug Store.

A lifelong Christian, Don’s faith has carried him through many trials and tribulations. He walked with integrity and lived with honor and dignity. Known for corny jokes and random songs, Don was a fun and witty presence who caused much eye rolling among his children. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who generously gave of his time, wisdom, jokes, encouragement, and support. A skilled woodworker, he built many a treehouse, shed, and bookcase, as well as homes in Tijuana Mexico for Amor Ministries with his family as part of Mexico Family Camp. He passed his enjoyment of building and renovating down to his children. His two-frogs-and-a-goat legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and his many friends.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lee Collier; children: Kristi (Trent) Thompson of Louisville, KY; Kimberly (Chris) Lucas of Honolulu, HI; and Eric (Traci) Collier of Asheville, NC; grandchildren: Samantha Thompson, Aaron Thompson, Luke Collier, Silas Collier, and Elliana Collier; siblings Theron (Kathy) Collier; Charles (Jessie) Collier; Phyllis Vest; and Philip (Marni) Collier; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Byron and Freda Collier.
