Columbus Fire Department welcomes new firefighter

The Columbus Fire Department welcomed a new firefighter this week. Jeremiah Tracey, 28, was sworn in by Mayor Jim Lienhoop during Tuesday’s Board of Public Works and Safety meeting at City Hall.

Tracey is 2013 graduate of Seymour High School and a 2016 graduate of Ball State University, where Tracey earned a bachelor’s of science degree in criminology. Tracey has been a member of the fire service since 2019 and had previously worked for the Seymour and Bloomington fire departments.

Tracey is a state-certified emergency medical technician and Indiana firefighter I & II certified. Additional certifications include confined space rescue technician, fire officer strategy and tactics, fire instructor and rope rescue technician.

Tracey will undergo a department orientation and training program under the supervision of the CFD Training Division. At the completion of all training requirements, Tracey will receive a station and shift assignment.
