COLUMBUS
George Harvey Zeilinger, 80, of Columbus, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
George was born November 29, 1942, in Saginaw, Michigan. The son of Louis and Ruth Gosen Zeilinger. On September 28, 1963, he married Barbara Sue Teboe.
After graduating from Michigan State University Mr. Zeilinger worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne until 1982. George and Barbara then moved to Columbus, Indiana where he took a job as chief engineer for Cummins Engine Company. He retired in 2005. He was also a longtime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. George loved long bicycle rides and spending winters in Florida with his wife Barb, bicycling and spending time at the beach. His family was important to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. Fishing trips to Canada with friends was a passion for many years. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Barbara; son, Jeff (Sherri) Zeilinger of Allenstown, PA; grandsons, Aiden Zeilinger and Jonah Zeilinger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Donald Zeilinger and Richard Zeilinger.
In keeping with the family’s request, cremation will take place and a memorial service for George will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Mark Teike and Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the church.
