National Weather Service warns of fire danger with red flag warning

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Red Flag Warning for critical fire weather conditions, which is in effect from noon today to 8 p.m. tonight.

Most of central Indiana is under the warning.

Winds are forecast at 20 to 25 mpg with gusts up to 40 mph with relative humidity as low as 20%. Temperatures are forecast in the low 80s.

The warning means any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and outdoor burning is not recommended. Motorists are reminded to never throw cigarettes out of a vehicle.
