Letter: Milo Smith has character, qualities to be next mayor

From: Rick Herman

Columbus

We are writing this letter in support for Milo Smith for mayor. We have known Milo for the past 15 years, primarily through First Christian Church.

We are most impressed by his character: very hard working, detail oriented, giving of his time and personal resources to help and support others. While I was serving at the church, I worked closely with Milo in his position as an elder and trustee, meeting regularly with him, reviewing budgets, staff and projects. His heart was always to ensure an inviting, clean and safe environment. When we would meet, his first question to me was “How are you and your wife doing?” His heart and care for people are his number one priority. Milo has done hundreds of hospital visits, dozens of funerals and I think a few weddings, because of the relationships he has cultivated over the years.

Milo and I spent many hours working together with other faithful volunteers: shoveling snow, trimming bushes, cleaning, he works hard and is not afraid to get dirty! Milo did all these while he was serving as State Representative and running his own business.

Quick examples of his heart and concern for others — during the pandemic when all the restaurants, library and other public spaces were closed, Milo realized that those that were homeless, had no access to restroom facilities. He received permission from the city and the church to have a portable restroom located behind the Youth Center for them to be able to use. He also coordinated a number of blood drives utilizing the Youth Center.

Milo and I rarely talked politics, never on Sundays, but we are voting for him because of who he is, his character, humility, care and concern for others as well as his past experience and wisdom in serving our community and state. He is the kind of person we want to lead and represent our community. Please join us in supporting Milo Smith for mayor.
