North wins invite

INDIANAPOLIS — No. 14-ranked Columbus North edged No. 9 Center Grove 312-313 to win the 23-team Franklin Central Invitational Saturday at Smock Golf Course. No. 6 Silver Creek finished third with a 315.

John Merritt tied for second individually with a 3-over-par 75 to lead the Bull Dogs. Tyler Wilks, Willy Davis and Jack Schiavello all shot 79, and Brady Schneider had an 81.

Jets second in MHC

GREENSBURG — Edinburgh’s Max Blandford won medalist honors with a 77 and Hauser shot 366 to finish second as a team behind North Decatur in the Mid-Hoosier Conference Tournament at North Branch.

Hunter Pappano led the Jets with a 78, and Caleb Wallace carded an 85 to join him on the All-Conference team. Brenden Burton added a 97, Marshall Moody shot 106 and Sam Hoene had a 110.

The Lancers finished third as a team with a 372. Gabe Bennett carded a 95, Wyatt Burton added a 97, Mason Calhoun shot 103 and Devyn Milburn had a 104.

Panthers card 356

JASPER — Jennings County finished with a 356 team total in the Jasper Invitational.

Jake Grider led the Panthers with an 82. Davey Shaw carded an 85, Jack George added a 92, Eli Simmons shot 96 and Sam Hauersperger had a 119.

Eagles shoot 402

NEW CASTLE — Brown County put up a 402 team score in the New Castle Invitational at Westwood Country Club.

Clay Austin led the Eagles with a 92. Wesley Arndt carded a 95, Liam Cassiday added a 102, Jon Kirchhofer shot 113 and Bradley Arndt had a 114.

BASEBALL

North splits pair

CARMEL — Columbus North beat Chesterton 11-3 in the semifinals before falling to Cathedral 10-4 in the championship game of the Carmel Invitational.

The Bull Dogs broke open a close game with seven runs in the second inning against Chesterton. Zach McLean went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Luke Harmon went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs and Joey Fry went 2 for 4. Connor Hensley and Fry combined on a seven-hitter.

Against Cathedral, Kyler Hashman went 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs, and starting pitcher Luke Harmon went 2 for 4 for the Bull Dogs (15-10).

Jets fall to Cougars

HOPE — Hauser led 2-1 after two innings, but North Daviess rallied for an 8-3 victory.

Starting pitcher Holden Pittman went 2 for 3 with a double for the Jets (13-12-1). Simeon Wasil went 2 for 4 with a double, and Karson Stuckey had two RBIs.

Panthers top Bears

NORTH VERNON — Cole Sigler went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and combined with Keegan Manowitz on a four-hitter to lead Jennings County to a 7-2 win against Shelbyville.

Ryan Schuck went 2 for 4 for the Panthers (12-15).
