Locals set records, help Marian advance

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Two local products set Marian single-season school records Monday in helping the Knights reach the semifinals of the softball NAIA World Series with a 6-0 win against Georgia Gwinnett.

Sierra Norman, a junior from Columbus North, went 1 for 2 at the plate and recorded eight putouts at first base to break the record for putouts.

Savannah Harweger, a senior shortstop from Trinity Lutheran, went 1 for 4. The hit was her 106th this season, breaking the record previously held by Seymour graduate Logan Personnett.

The Knights (52-8) will play Oregon Tech in the semifinals at 4:03 p.m. today. The semifinals and final will be streamed on ESPN3.

East graduates to square off in NCAA

Columbus East graduates will be on opposite sides when Indiana State hosts Wright State at 2 p.m. Friday in the opening round of the baseball NCAA Tournament.

Cole Gilley is a pitcher for the Sycamores (42-15), who are the top seeds in the four-team Terre Haute Regional. Julian Greenwell and Parker Harrison play for the fourth-seeded Raiders (39-21).
