Veterans in need can get back-to-school aid

Veterans with school-age children who are facing financial hardship can receive up to $500 in aid per dependent child to help defray back-to-school costs.

The Military Family Relief Fund administered by the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs on June 1 launched Operation Back to School.

The program allows veterans to obtain aid for children in grades K-12 as well as full time college students up to age 23 who live in the veteran’s home.

To apply, veterans will need to provide proof of income, proof of the child’s residence and dependency, a bank statement and other information.

The program will offer run through Aug. 31.
