Jack L. Tovey, 88, of Greenwood, passed away in Greenwood, IN on May 29, 2023.
He was born on June 27, 1934 in Columbus, IN to the late Betty and Omer Tovey. He was preceded in death by a son, Craig,a son-in-law, Steve Richards, a brother, Gene Tovey and a brother-in-law Tom Thornton.
Jack is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sandy Fotiades Richards Tovey, adopted daughter Sheryl McCain of Conifer CO, sons Eric (Jennifer), Kirk (Karen) of Jacksonville, FL, Steve (Susan) of Murrieta, CA, son-in-law John (Lisa) Richards of Bloomington, IN, sister Nadine Thornton of Medinah, IL, sister-in-law Patricia Tovey of Columbus, IN, their families, granddaughters, grandsons, a host of nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
Jack was a true Renaissance Man and good at so many things. Jack worked with hundreds of people’s feet, he was a shoe guy personified. He had a passion for shoes which started at a young age from his father’s store, Tovey’s Shoes. From high school on, Jack engaged in painting. He did everything from figure studies to abstract paintings. There was creativity in anything he touched. Jack was a car enthusiast. He built 2 race cars and participated in Solo racing for 50+ years, owning numerous cars along the way. He had a passion for cars! He sang with a dance band, sang at weddings, at churches, with choirs and performed at Carnegie Hall and also sang at his mother’s funeral. He loved music!
Jack had a positive influence with those who surrounded him, whether it was his family, friends or employees. He was a real motivator. He had a passion for people! Jack will fondly be remembered by his loud bellowing laugh.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM at G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home at The Gardens of Olive Branch, 1605 S. State Road 135, Greenwood, IN, with a celebration of life at 3:00 PM.
