North Vernon men face child porn charges

NORTH VERNON — A North Vernon man who Indiana State Police said shared images of child pornography multiple times with a detective is one of two men being held without bond on child porn charges in the Jennings County Jail after their arrests Thursday by Indiana State Police.

David Rector, 59, North Vernon, was held on suspicion of three counts of Level 3 felony possession of child pornography after he was arrested at 9:10 a.m. Thursday by the Indiana State Police, according to records from the jail.

Sgt. Carey Huls of the Indiana State Police Versailles Post said investigators with the ISP’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force obtained a search warrant after an unknown suspect shared child pornography 15 times on multiple dates with a detective.

In the investigation led by Det. Robert Whyte of the Versailles District, Huls said ISP investigators “collected the suspect’s computer information and through investigative means and legal means were able to identify the suspect” as Rector.

Executing the search warrant, ISP collected electronic devices that stored additional evidence, Huls said. Additionally, police searching the house found an indoor and outdoor marijuana growing operating with more than 100 plants in various stages of development, Huls said.

Rector also was held on suspicion of misdemeanor counts of cultivating marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, according to authorities. Online court records show Rector had not been charged as of Friday evening.

ISP Versailles Post Trooper Andrew Garrett and examiners with the Indiana State Police digital forensics section assisted in the investigation.

Separately, jail records show ISP arrested Jaden Page, 20, of North Vernon at 10:09 a.m. Thursday, and he was held on suspicion of Level 4 felony possession of child pornography.

Huls said Friday there was no information immediately available about Page’s arrest. He likewise had not been formally charged as of Friday evening.
