Prep sports notebook: Lovelace commits to Calumet College

Columbus North incoming senior Kelsey Lovelace has committed to play softball at Calumet College of St. Joseph.

Earlier this year, recent North graduate Bailey King committed to play softball at Calumet College, as well.

Lovelace, who plays shortstop, batted .430 with nine doubles, one home run, 29 RBIs and 35 runs scored this spring. The Bull Dogs finished 25-2-1 and won the Conference Indiana title.

Harmon selected North baseball MVP

Senior Luke Harmon, who led Columbus North to the sectional baseball title, has been named the team’s MVP.

Harmon also was named Best Offensive Player and was recognized as the team captain. Tyler Blythe won Best Defensive Player, Connor Hensley won Most Versatile Player and Blake Osbourne was named Most Valuable Pitcher. Kyler Hashman won the Brad Everett Integrity Award, Ely Lucas won the Mental Attitude Award and Ryan Rayburn won the Bull Dog Award.

Harmon, Hensley, Zach McLean and Blake Osbourne selected to the All-Conference Indiana team. Tyler Blythe was an honorable mention selection.

Jayce Emmitt and Brock Kinter were named MVPs of North’s JV Blue squad. Lane Schrader was selected Top Pitcher, Kintner Best Offensive Player and Jesse Clark Best Defensive Player. Sam Perry won the Bull Dog Award.

Daiju Iwaya was named MVP of the JV White team. Jacob Havenaar won Best Offensive Player, and Elijah Clark won the Bull Dog Award.

East athletics to host Tailgate Party

Columbus East will be holding its first Athletics Tailgate Party from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 in the school’s south parking lot.

The tailgate party will include food trucks, a cornhole tournament and other yard games and bounce houses. There also will be live music from 5 to 7 p.m.

North to host Blue and White Night

Columbus North’s annual Blue and White Night will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at the school.

The athletics department will host an informational meeting for all student-athletes and their parents in Memorial Gym, and All-Sports passes will be sold throughout the evening. There will be a “Dog Bowl” involving all North fall, winter and spring sports teams at Max Andress Field.
