CPD opens investigation into child injured at Children Inc.

COLUMBUS, Ind. — The Columbus Police Department has confirmed it has opened an investigation into a child suffering a broken arm at a local child care facility on July 25.

Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman, said no further information is being released at this time as the incident is investigated by detectives.

According to parents, Children Inc., 715 McClure Road, sent them a message that the child suffered a broken arm after a staff person picked up the youngster the wrong way. The staff member was subsequently terminated from employment, according to the message. The message indicates the incident was captured on videotape from a classroom camera.

The incident was initially sent to Child Protective Services and then based on that information, CPD has decided to investigate, Harris said.

Jill Harden, Children Inc. director, said Friday because the matter is under investigation by police, she could not comment or provide further information.

According to the facility’s website, Children Inc. has been in operation for more than 50 years in Columbus and serves children from infants to age 12.
