Athletes of the Week

Caroline Frost

FEMALE

Caroline Frost // Columbus East senior volleyball player

Frost led the Olympians with 17 kills and four aces Saturday in a four-set win at Jeffersonville. Earlier in the week, she recorded eight kills and two aces in a three-set loss at Franklin and nine kills, five blocks and one ace in a three-set loss to Bloomington North.

Her performance last week: “I feel like the first game, I played decent. The second game, I feel like I could have played a lot better, and the team we could play a lot better. I need to work on my defense. Against Jeff, I feel like I had a very good offensive game. Overall as a team, I feel like we improved each game, and hopefully as the season goes on, we’ll keep improving one game at a time.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I do my own arm stretches with (resistance) bands. Usually as a team, we go to Tropical Smoothie. I drink a lot of water and Body Armor to stay hydrated, and definitely music hypes me up, too.”

Favorite drink: “Lemonade”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite class: “My Marketing Fundamentals class is by far my favorite class right now.”

Favorite sports team: “Purdue”

Favorite athlete: “(Brother and former Purdue basketball player) Matt Frost. Even though he was a walk-on, he did everything the team did and was supportive from the bench. That kind of inspired me a little bit.”

Role model: “All three of my siblings (older sister Courtney and brothers Kyle and Matt).”

Best advice: “’Always be better than your best.’ Even if I have a great game, I want to do better.”

Athletics goal: “For this year, I just want to get as far as we can.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I haven’t really been out of the country, so if I could go to the Fiji islands, that would be cool. Anywhere tropical. I’ve also really wanted to go to Colorado because of the insane views, and I love hiking.”

MALE

Branden Braun // Jennings County senior football player

Branden Braun

Braun carried 15 times for 156 yards and two touchdowns and caught four passes for 81 yards and two more scores Friday to lead the Panthers to their first season-opening win since 2011, a 41-25 victory against South Dearborn.

His performance last week: “I felt like we did great. The offensive line blocked well, and coaching made a couple of adjustments in the second half that got us over the top.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “A lot of stretching. We do (resistance) bands to stretch our legs out.”

Favorite drink: “Lemondae”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “Strength and Conditioning”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University and Cincinnati Reds”

Favorite athlete: “(Seattle Seahawks running back) Kenneth Walker”

Role model: “My parents (Krista and Josh Braun).”

Best advice: “Live every day like it’s your last.”

Athletics goal: “Go to college to play somewhere and get a scholarship.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably anywhere in Europe. Just the history behind it is really cool.”
