East girls take ninth, boys 11th at BNL

BEDFORD — Columbus East’s girls cross-country team finished ninth and the Olympian boys were 11th Saturday in Bedford North Lawrence’s Ted Fox Invitational.

The East girls scored 216 points. Center Grove won with 32 points to 62 for runner-up Floyd Central.

Carly Otte led the Olympians with a 31st-place finish in 21 minutes, 58.62 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles). Victoria Cuhadar took 40th in 22:36.42, while Madison Swartzentruber was 57th (23:31.36), Megumi Going 58th (23:31.63) and Abby Collins 59th (23:37.23).

The East boys scored 292 points. No. 8 Floyd Central won with 27 points to 63 for No. 13 Center Grove.

Jackson Brookes finished 37th in 17:57.30 to lead the Olympians. Austin Menefee took 50th in 18:55.17, while Lorren Westerfeld was 64th (19:14.98), Chance Knapp 81st (20:00.65) and Elijah Clore 87th (20:17.52).
