IUC volleyball takes close loss in home opener; soccer teams fall

Playing its first ever home game, the IUC volleyball team went five sets before dropping a 25-17, 23-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-8 River States Conference decision to Oakland City on Saturday.

Addison Lemon led the Crimson Pride (4-3, 1-2) with 30 assists and eight digs. Olivia Embry and Cora Baker each pounded 11 kills, Mackenzie Broman had six blocks and Madison Hunter served three aces.

Columbus North graduate Logan Branstetter added three kills, one block assist, three digs and two aces.

Meanwhile, the IUC men’s and women’s soccer teams both fell at West Virginia Tech on Saturday. The Crimson Pride men (5-3, 1-1) lost 2-0, with Jacob Kasarda recording six saves.

The IUC women fell 3-0. Ana Jackson posted six saves for the Crimson Pride (2-4, 0-2).
