COLUMBUS, Ind. — Columbus police are continuing an investigation into a shooting outside the Pinebrook Courts Apartments at about 10 p.m. Wednesday which caused critical injuries to an adult male who was flown to an Indianapolis hospital.
Columbus Police spokesman Lt. Matt Harris said police were initially told that a robbery occurred before the shooting at the apartments, in the 1900 block of Pinebrook Court, which are off Central Avenue north of Parkside Drive. There were also reports of “shots fired.”
The man who was shot was found outside the apartments in the yard and police also located and detained the shooter, and secured the handgun used in the incident.
The officers provided CPR to the wounded man until paramedics arrived.
There have been no arrests made in the incident at this time.
Police are not releasing the names of the victim or shooter, who is also an adult male, at this time as detectives continue the investigation. The person believed to be the shooter was later released from police custody.
Harris said the victim is in “extremely critical condition” this morning at an Indianapolis hospital after being transported there by helicopter.
