Beverly Ann Greenwood

INDIANAPOLIS

Beverly Ann Greenwood, 86, of Indianapolis, died peacefully Friday, October 20, 2023.

Beverly was born April 5, 1937, in Terre Haute, the daughter of Byron and Lucille Greenwood. She graduated from Southport High School in 1955. A star baker in the 4-H Club, she presented a beautiful cake to President Dwight Eisenhower during his visit to Indianapolis.

Beverly proudly graduated from Purdue University in 1959. She was the first in her family to receive a college degree, majoring in Home Economics. Beverly was a beloved sorority sister in the Delta Epsilon Chapter of Phi Mu. She also enjoyed performing as a majorette with Purdue’s All American Band. One of her favorite events was twirling baton and marching at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

After college, Beverly taught home economics at Shelbyville High School. She later moved to Columbus, IN and spent the majority of her 35-year teaching career with the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation. While teaching full-time and raising two boys, Beverly earned her master’s degree from Indiana University’s School of Education in Bloomington.

She dedicated her life to teaching and helping others. Beverly enjoyed all family consumer science topics, but her passion was teaching girls in need to support themselves through the vocational education programs she developed. Her own Early Childhood Development program eventually became a pilot program for the State of Indiana.

In her leisure time, Beverly enjoyed the outdoors, baking, and travel. She especially loved her many summers at the family cabin near Sioux Narrows, Ontario, Canada. She swam daily, fished for walleye, kneaded sourdough, and picked gallons of blueberries for her pies and pancakes. She taught her boys to love the outdoors and instilled in them values they hold dear today. A loving mother and grandmother, Beverly will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
