Gross kicks off pro basketball career

Alex Gross

The professional basketball career of Alex Gross is off to a solid start.

The 2018 Hauser graduate is averaging 12.7 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots per game while playing for in the BNXT League. He has helped lead ZZ Leiden (Holland) to a 4-2 start in the league.

ZZ Leiden also played in and won a pair of FIBA Europe Cup games in October. Gross averaged 7.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in those two games.

The 6-foot-10 Gross played four years at Olivet Nazarene, then spent his fifth season as a graduate transfer at Morehead State. A Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and first-team NAIA All-American at Olivet, he went on to average 12.0 points and team highs of 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game and was named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year last season after leading Morehead to the OVC regular-season title and a first-round NIT upset at Clemson.

Gross had a tryout with the Indiana Pacers on June 6. After weighing several offers to play overseas, he signed with ZZ Leiden on Aug. 7.
