Commissioners put county-wide burn ban in effect

COLUMBUS, Ind. — At the request of the county fire chiefs, the Bartholomew County commissioners signed a countywide burn ban effective this morning. The burn ban is effective for seven days at which time it will be reevaluated. If conditions remain the same, the fire chiefs will request the commissioners sign another declaration for an additional seven days, keeping the ban in place. This process can continue as many times as necessary until all parties agree the conditions have changed enough to lift the ban, according to Bartholomew County Emergency Management.
