Looking Back, Nov. 14, 2023

Lisa Olsen, daughter of Ogden Olsen of Franklin Street, wound up on the bottom of a pile of leaves and two adversaries, Matthew, a visitor to Columbus from Michigan, and Stacy Beamond, daughter of J. Alson Beamond, also of Franklin Street, during a leaf fight in Lisa’s front yard in 1973.

While maintenance workers removed crumbling plaster from the Bartholomew County Annex as a safety precaution, Bartholomew County Commissioners and County Council members remained deadlocked over the issue of what to do with the 85-year-old structure at 1972 State St., which was not compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and suffered from structural problems.

Detective Lt. Mark Gorbett was selected to take over as Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department chief deputy when current Chief Deputy Kenny Whipker took over as sheriff on Jan. 1.

Mike Andress, senior halfback for Columbus North High School, was named to the United Press International all-state high school football team which he called the “best honor a football player can receive.”
