4-H youth honored at luncheon

The Indiana 4-H Foundation, with Purdue Extension and Idniana 4-H Youth Development, recently recognized the 2023 Accomplishment Scholarship recipients at a luncheon Oct. 21.

Among the recipients is Ruth Beck, Bartholomew County, receiving the Animal Science Meat & Milk Production Scholarship, sponsored by Lois Ellen Byers.

Student participates in challenge

ANGOLA — Trine University students ande faculty participated in NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge, competing at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Olivia Ward, a computer engineering major from Alexandria, and Abigail DeCamp, a computer and electrical engineering major from North Vernon, teamed with Andrea Mitofsky, professor of electrical and computer engineering and Joe Thompson, Wade Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, on the “Oceans Gardens” challenge. In the challenge, participants created an interactive, easy-to-understand platform to educate users about what the ocean provides.

Farm Credit offering scholarships

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – Farm Credit Mid-America is now accepting applications for its Customer Scholarship and Farm Credit Mid-America Scholars programs. Children or grandchildren of Farm Credit Mid-America customers as well as college students who plan to pursue a career in agriculture are encouraged to apply. Scholarship recipients are chosen based on academic performance, leadership qualities, community involvement and passion for promoting and being part of the future of agriculture.

The Farm Credit Mid-America Scholars program is available to rising college sophomores and juniors pursuing careers in agriculture. The program awards $5,000 in financial support over two academic years to 25 students each year. Recipients also participate in learning and travel experiences that develop leadership skills and enhance financial literacy.

The Customer Agricultural Scholarship is awarded to children or grandchildren of Farm Credit Mid-America customers. Each year, 36 students majoring in agriculture or pursuing an agricultural or rural community-related career at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, vocational or trade school receive a $1,500 scholarship.

College-bound students who meet the eligibility requirements for a Farm Credit Mid-America scholarship are encouraged to apply before the Dec. 31 deadline. North students win national honors

Columbus North High School Media students recently traveled to Boston to attend the Journalism Education Association and National Scholastic Press Association’s National High School Journalism Convention.

According to student media advisor Rachel McCarver, seven students placed in national contests:

  • Greta Schuetz — Sports Broadcast (Honorable Mention)
  • Lydia Weed — Feature Writing (Excellent)

The Triangle placed 10th among newsmagazines at high schools with an enrollment of 1,800 or more.
