Olympian boys, girls sweep Panthers

NORTH VERNON — Columbus East swimming swept a dual meet at Jennings County on Monday night. The Olympians won the boys contest 142-35 and the girls meet 147-77.

East’s boys captured all 12 events. Cavan Stilson won the 50-yard freestyle (22.91 seconds) and 100 freestyle (50.20), and Misha Machavariani took the 500 freestyle (5:08.22) and 100 breaststroke (1:04.41). Other individual winners were Keaton Stephenson in the 200 freestyle (1:56.56), Todd Hundley in the 200 individual medley (2:11.20), Gavin Day in the diving competition (271.00), Judah Nickoll in the 100 butterfly (57.33) and Ethan Hall in the 100 backstroke (1:04.16). The Olympians swept the 200 medley (1:59.62), 200 freestyle (1:43.72) and 400 frestyle (3:29.24) relays.

For the girls, East’s Connelly Furnish won the 200 freestyle (2:01.29) and 100 butterfly (1:06.81), and Abby Proffitt took the 50 freestyle (27.97) and 100 backstroke (1:14.68). Kira VanValkenburg captured the 200 IM (2:35.43), Gabbie Meier won the diving (221.65), Grace Lykins took the 100 freestyle (1:11.66) and Ali Trueblood claimed the 100 breaststroke (1:21.85). The Olympians also swept the 200 medley (2:11.63), 200 freestyle (1:56.09) and 400 freestyle (4:12.01) relays.

The Panthers’ Avery Witt won the girls 500 freestyle in 5:33.02.
