Gene A. Wilber

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Gene A. Wilber, 82, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 1:56 a.m. Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Gene was born in Columbus, April 27, 1941, the loving son of Guy and Dorothy Brown Wilber. He was the widower of Reva B. Zeigler Boaz, whom he married December 22, 2003; she preceded him in death December 7, 2016.

Gene was an electrician at Cosco, Inc retiring after many years of service. After retirement, Gene had a lawn care business and he tended to his rental houses. Gene was always a hard worker. He was a former member of Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398. Gene will be remembered for his passion of racing. He started running go-carts in the early 1970’s and continued racing for many years. He enjoyed going to his grandson’s TQ midget sprint car races for over 15 years and was his biggest fan. Gene also loved to travel.

Gene is survived by his step-daughter, Connie (Michael) Sullivan of Columbus; grandchildren, Rick (Dora) Robinson of Columbus, Robin Robinson of Columbus, Amy Boaz (John) Pawlus of Columbus and Greg Boaz of Columbus; great-grandson, Daemen Sampson of Columbus; great-great grandson, Daemen Sampson II; nieces and nephews, Connie (Daryl) Maddox of Morgantown, Tony (Peggy) Lovelace of Scipio, Steve (Sheila) Lovelace of Scipio, Donald (Jenny) Wilber of Augusta, Georgia, Carl Wilber of Florida, Cindy (Tony) of Columbus, Brenda Wilber of Columbus; and many great-nieces and nephews and other relatives.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Reva Wilber; siblings, Paul and Ricky Wilber, Shirley McDaniel and Betty Lovelace; and his brother-in-law, Lawrence Lovelace.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Virgil Clotfelter will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Gene will be laid to rest next to his wife at Garland Brook Cemetery.
