Dr. William E. Bailey

COLUMBUS

Dr. William E. Bailey, 73, of Columbus, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Dr. Bailey was born on May 31, 1950, in Ardmore, Alabama to Edward Bailey and Frances Bratcher Bailey. He married Mary Ann Beasley on December 22, 1972.

Dr. Bailey was an Air Force Veteran serving his country for 13 years. He received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Wayland Baptist University, Plainview, TX, his master’s degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY, and his doctorate from Luther Rice College &Seminary in Stonecrest, GA. Dr. Bailey held pastoral positions in Deer Creek Baptist Church in Tell City, IN, Arbor Grove Baptist Church in Houston, MS, Round Island Baptist Church in Athens, AL, and William retired from Parkside Baptist Church in Columbus, IN, on May 31, 2022, after 25 years. While at Parkside, Bill served as President and held several other positions at the Indiana Southern Baptist Convention.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Parkside Baptist Church, 1780 Rocky Ford Road, Columbus, IN 47203 with Pastor Ricky Persons officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Dr. Bailey will be laid to rest in the veteran’s section at Garland Brook Cemetery with military honors by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. The funeral service will be live-streamed on the church’s Facebook page.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkside Baptist Church Building Fund or Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana, through the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Bailey; son, Richard (Leanne) Bailey of Buffalo, NY; daughter, Rachel (Steve) Flinn of Columbus, IN; brother, Randy (Fina) Bailey of Lincoln, AL; grandchildren, Dailey Flinn, Lucas Bailey, Danica Flinn and Steven Flinn.

Dr. Bailey was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, James Edwin Bailey and Robert Everett Bailey.
