Say YES to free Black History Month films
YES Cinema in Columbus traditionally hosts free screenings of culturally significant films during local celebrations of Black History Month, and this year is no exception. Saturday at 9:30 a.m., the downtown nonprofit theater will feature “Just Mercy,” a 2019 legal drama about a wrongful murder conviction. Shown in a scene from the film are Michael B. Jordan as lawyer Bryan Stevenson and Jamie Foxx as wrongfully convicted defendant Walter McMillian.

Through Feb. 29, “And Still We Rise: A History of Resilience, Perseverance, Faith & Love” showcases local African American history in conjunction with Black History Month Columbus Indiana. Through June 28, “Columbus Connections at the 1904 World’s Fair” explores local contributions to the famous exhibition 120 years ago in St. Louis. BCHS hosts two permanent exhibits that share the history and heritage of Bartholomew County. Learn about our county through interactive, hands-on exhibits that include a map table, notable people, county timeline, Then and Now, Did You Know, early industrialists and videos of Reeves steam engines.
