A local man was arrested after he reportedly grabbed a woman by her throat during an argument at a Columbus pharmacy on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 5 p.m., CPD officers responded to the Kroger Pharmacy located at 3060 N. National Road. When officers arrived, they spoke with a woman who advised that she was being helped at the pharmacy counter when a man approached her and became argumentative because he thought she cut in line, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

A short time later, the man later identified as Steven M. Ebert, 65, of Columbus, grabbed the woman by her throat and the

incident was broken up by bystanders at the store, Harris said.

CPD officers spoke with witnesses and reviewed security video footage of the incident and arrested Ebert at the conclusion of their investigation at the scene. He was transported to the Bartholomew County Jail accused of a preliminary charge of Level 6 felony strangulation.
