Commission opens institute registration

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Arts Commission has opened registration for the 2024 Summer Institute for Creative Teaching. The Summer Institute for Creative Teaching began in 2023 and is a partnership with the Indiana Department of Education.

The Summer Institute for Creative Teaching is a three-day, in-person learning experience for Indiana educators. The Institute will include engaging artistic activities and opportunities to explore how creative teaching can enhance curriculum and will take place July 10-12 at the Herman B. Wells Community Center at Lebanon High School.

The conference is designed for both classroom educators and arts education programming staff at arts organizations who want to connect with peers and learn new strategies in arts learning.

The conference registration fee is $75, which includes three days of activities and professional development experiences, all materials and supplies, and meals including two lunches and two breakfasts. After May 1, the fee increases to $110. Scholarships are available for educators to attend at a partially or fully reduced rate.

Registration for the Summer Institute is open now and will remain open until May 15. To learn more, visit https://www.in.gov/arts/programs-and-services/training/summer-institute-for-creative-teaching/.

Club donates to bike program

The Stoney Lonesome Motorcycle Club, one of the first racing groups formed in Indiana, recently donated to All Kids Bike, a national nonprofit that teaches kindergarten students how to ride bikes in PE class. The donation will fund the All Kids Learn-To-Ride Kindergarten PE Program at Clifty Creek Elementary School in Columbus.

Teacher training and certification, a fleet of 24 bikes, pedal conversion kits, helmets, an instructional bike for teachers, two rolling storage racks, and access to a resource portal with live support is included in the program.

A celebration was held at Clifty Creek Elementary School to kick off the event after members of the Stoney Lonesome Motorcycle Club built the bikes for the school.

It is estimated that up to 1,250 students will benefit from the program over the next decade, with a lifespan of seven to 10 years for the equipment.

Ivy Tech Day set in April

INDIANAPOLIS – At 12:01 a.m. April 23, the Ivy Tech Foundation will kick off Ivy Tech Day, the college’s second annual day of giving, to help Ivy Tech Community College’s more than 190,000 students prepare for graduation day — and a better every day after.

Ivy Tech Day, the college’s second annual day of giving sponsored by the Ivy Tech Foundation, will start at 12:01 a.m. on April 23. The day will help Ivy Tech Community College’s more than 190,000 students prepare for graduation day.

For 24 hours, alumni, faculty, staff, donors, community leaders and members can contribute to Ivy Tech’s mission of preparing Hoosiers for today’s — and tomorrow’s — workforce.

Ivy Tech Day aims to generate resources and create opportunities while reuniting and reconnecting alumni and friends of Ivy Tech with the important work happening at Indiana’s largest postsecondary institution and engine of workforce development.

Ivy Tech contributes nearly $4 billion annually to Indiana’s economy, including a net impact of $3.6 billion from alumni working across the state. More than 40,000 degrees, certificates and certifications are awarded annually, and 93 percent of graduates stay in Indiana to pursue their careers. More than 40 percent of Ivy Tech students are the first in their families to attend college, and 25 percent are students of color.

Those interested in contributing to Ivy Tech Day can do so at ivytech.edu/giveday starting at 12:01 a.m. on April 23. Alumni and friends of Ivy Tech are invited to participate by setting up a matching gift, becoming a social ambassador, and visiting local community partners on Ivy Tech Day. The inaugural Ivy Tech Day in 2023 inspired 2,032 gifts equaling more than $243,000 raised.
