Former Columbus North assistant football coach and former Edinburgh head football and baseball coach Jason Burton has been named head football coach at Jennings County.

Burton, who also has been assistant boys basketball coach at Hauser, takes over the Panther football program from T.J. Newton. Newton went 8-13 over the past two seasons before leaving to take the head coaching job at Eastern (Pekin).

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to lead the Jennings Football Program!” Burton wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “My wife and our family look forward to joining the JC Family. The combination of the small town feel, with a supportive community, great facilities, supportive administration and a team hungry for success, make this a fantastic fit, and somewhere I can call home long term. I look forward to building relationships with the JC student athletes, staff and community very soon. I would like to thank Principal Dustin Roller, Athletic Director Cory Stevens and Superintendent Nicole Johnson for the opportunity to lead the Panther Football Program. Go Panthers!”

“Meet The Coach Night” will be Tuesday in the Jennings County High School cafeteria. There will be a player/parent meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. and a community meet and greet from 7 to 8 p.m.
