The owner of the closed Columbus Dolly Madison plant, Georgia-based Flowers Foods, put the vacant building up for sale with the condition that it couldn’t be purchased by a competitor as a bakery. Flowers had purchased the plant from Hostess Brands Inc. in July 2013.
1999
Columbus resident Lisa Marie Myers was among the 33 Indiana college women selected as Indy 500 Festival princesses. Myers was a nursing student at Indiana State University and received a $600 scholarship from IWC Resources and KeyBank.
1974
A double-feature film screening of “Land of the Mossi” and color slides photographed in Africa by former NASA photographer Mac Owen were shown at the First Assembly of God. The Rev. Curtis Dean, a missionary from Upper Volta, Africa (now Burkina Faso), was a guest speaker at the service after the film.
