Crimson Pride softball notches first win of season; baseball team falls

IU Columbus softball recorded its first win of the season Monday, an 8-6 River States Confernce victory at Midway (Kentucky) in the first game of a doubleheader.

Gracie Holok went 3 for 4 with a double to lead the Crimson Pride’s 12-hit attack. Brown County graduate Taylor Poling and Mallory Shelton each went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Columbus North graduate Taylor Hadley went 2 for 4.

Lex Rieckers picked up the win in relief of Erica Henry. Sydney Owens recorded the final out to earn the save.

Midway won the second game 6-2. IUC’s Morgan Steineker went 2 for 4 with a double. Owens started and took the loss.

Meanwhile, the Crimson Pride baseball team dropped an RSC doubleheader 12-6 and 14-3 to Point Park. Jared Ross went 2 for 4 with a home run in the opener. Starter and Jennings County graduate Austin Martin took the loss.

Ross had a home run and two RBIs in the second game. Starter Jackson Gilcrest took the loss.

The softball team (1-7, 1-3) plays a doubleheader Tuesday at Lindsey Wilson (Kentucky). The baseball team (5-17, 1-5) visits UC-Clermont on Thursday.
