Spring is a great time to spread mulch and compost on plants, shrubs and trees that benefit from their nutrients. The Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District (BCSWMD) is offering the soil amendments and groundcover free for county residents.
The district announced this week that residents are welcome to self-load free mulch and/or compost from its yard adjacent to the Columbus/Bartholomew Recycling Center, 720 S. Mapleton St. Hours are Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Those who need assistance can receive a truckload of loaded compost or mulch for $10 on Fridays beginning in April. Payment may be made at the BCSWMD offices.
The district also will offer free senior loading the last two Wednesdays of March — March 20 and March 27 — from 8:00 am to noon.
Visit the BCSWMD website, www.bcswmd.com, or call 812-376-2614 for more information about free mulch and compost or other Bartholomew County Solid Waste Management District programs.
