Donald K. Lucas

COLUMBUS, INDIANA

Donald K. Lucas, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 9:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at The Belmont Health and Rehabilitation at the age of 87.

Don was born in Columbus, Indiana, March 29, 1936, the loving son of James L. and Mary Alice Miller Lucas. On June 30, 1972, Don married Ann L. Jacobs; she survives.

Don was a 1956 graduate of Van Buren High School in Brown County where he played on the basketball and baseball teams. For eight years, Don served in the Indiana Army National Guard. He was a supervisor at Cummins Engine Company retiring in 1987 after 31 years of service. After retirement, Don started Don’s Lawn Service, a job he took great pride in for 15 years.

Don was a member of the Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398. Don’s biggest passion in life, besides his family, was golfing and he enjoyed bowling in his earlier years. He enjoyed college basketball, especially the Indiana Hoosiers and he was a big fan of the Cincinnati Reds.

Don’s life will be cherished by his wife of 51 years, Ann; children, James (Suzi) Lucas of Chicago, Kimberly (Chandra) Lucas of Columbus, John (Joanna) Parks of Columbus and John (Lori) Lucas of Columbus; granddaughters, Ashley (Eli) Murphy of Portland, Oregon, Cassie (Spencer) Hamm of Indianapolis and Hannah Lucas of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Zayne, Tayla, Jude, Alexander and Sloane; brothers, Ted (Karen) Lucas of Edinburgh and Rick Lucas of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Alice Lucas; brothers, Lyle, Leonard and Belva Lucas; and an infant grandson, Fisher Lucas.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Larry Coon will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or the donor’s choice of charities.
