NORTH VERNON, INDIANA
Virginia Ruth Sorrell, a resident of North Vernon, Indiana, passed from this life at 11:06 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Columbus Regional Hospital at the age of 79.
Mrs. Sorrell was born in Columbus, November 14, 1944, the loving daughter of James P. and Sara Jane Burton Miller.
A homemaker, Mrs. Sorrell attended Trinity Baptist Church in Columbus. Some of her hobbies were camping and fishing and she was a huge NASCAR fan.
Her life will be cherished by her children, Joseph (Yulonda) Warner of Hope, Sarah (Gerald) Arnold of Seymour, Chiquita (John) Snyder of Columbus, Junior (Mary) Garrett of North Vernon, Jenni (Lonnie) Moore of North Vernon and James Garrett of North Vernon; sisters, Nancy Cobb of North Vernon and Peggy (Steve) Stuckwisch of Tampico; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mrs. Sorrell was preceded in death by her parents; son, Robert Garrett; grandson, Joe Warner; sisters, Martha Miller and Dorothy Lucas; and a brother, Morris Miller.
The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Pastor Ed Boston will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sorrell will be laid to rest at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus Fireman’s Cheer Fund.
