Club Olympia takes 17th at Age Group State

Club Olympia took 22 swimmers to last weekend’s Indiana Age Group Short Course Championships and finished 17th overall.

The Club Olympia boys broke through with a seventh-place finish, led by Joshua Pendleton with 78 points and his brother Chad Pendleton with 73 points.

Club Olympia’s Josh Pendleton was the silver medalist in the 13-14 Boys 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyle events.

Joshua Pendleton placed second in the 13-14-year-old Boys 1,000-yard freestyle and 1,650 freestyle, fourth in the 500 freestyle, eighth in the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley and 10th in the 200 freestyle. His times currently rank him the seventh-fastest 13-year-old in the nation in 1,650 freestyle, 10th in the 1,000 freestyle and 12th in the 500 freestyle.

Chad Pendleton won the 10-and-under Boys 200 freestyle and placed fourth in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM, sixth in the 100 freestyle and 12th in the 50 butterfly and 100 breaststroke. His time in the 200 IM ranks ranks him 24th in the nation for 9-year-old boys, and his 200 freestyle time is the 25th-fastest time to date.

Aahan Gupta scored 48.5 points, placing seventh in the 100 butterfly and 200 freestyle, ninth in the 50 butterfly, 10th in the 50 freestyle and 12th in the 100 freestyle and 200 IM.

The younger Pendleton and Gupta also combined with Sarthak Deshmukh and Vivan Shah to podium with an eighth-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay and finished 10th in the 200 medley relay.

Club Olympia’s Connelly Furnish was bronze medalist in the 13-14 Girls 1,000 freestyle.

Connelly Furnish, who turned 15 on the final day of the meet, scored 45 points by placing third in the 13-14 Girls 1,000 freestyle, fifth in the 1,650 freestyle, seventh in the 500 freestyle and 14th in the 200 freestyle, all in personal-best times.

Camila Mejia Murguia scored nine points by placing 13th in the 11-12 Girls 100 butterfly, 14th in the 50 butterfly and 15th in the 200 freestyle. She also took 18th in the 500 freestyle, 21st in the 50 freestyle and 25th in the 100 freestyle.

Rebeca Mejia Murguia also scored by placing 15th in the 11-12 Girls 50 breaststroke. She just missed making finals and scoring by placing 18th to be the second alternate in the 100 breaststroke.

Lexi Miller just missed scoring in the 11-12 Girls 500 freestyle, placing 17th. She also dropped almost three seconds in the 200 freestyle to move up from 35th to 26th. Kay Payne finished 23rd in the 11-12 Girls 100 butterfly. Lily Pendleton was 65th in the 50 freestyle and 68th in the 100 freestyle.

The Mejia Murguia sisters combined with Miller and Pendleton to place 12th in the 11-12 Girls 200 medley relay. The quartet also placed 19th in the 200 freestyle relay. Payne combined with Gargi Gupta, Vibha Nagiligari and Aashka Shah to place 23rd in the 200 medley relay.

Shreyan Kulkarni placed 30th in the 11-12 Boys 500 freestyle, 34th in the 200 freestyle and 200 IM, 45th in the 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle and 50th in the 50 freestyle. Kulkarni, Adir Joshi, Xavier Zhang and Arjun Agarkar finished 25th in the 11-12 Boys 200 freestyle relay.

Locals compete for FRST

Two Columbus swimmers helped Franklin Regional Swim Team to a ninth-place overall finish in the Age-Group State Championships.

Jonathan “Deuce” Callaway finished 32nd in the boys 11-12 50 breaststroke and swam on FRST’s fourth-place 200 medley and fifth-place 200 freestyle relay teams. Tristan Davis swam on the 26th-place 10-and-under 200 freestyle relay team.
