IUC softball sweeps Brescia; baseball drops close game

IUC softball swept a River States Conference doubleheader from Brescia (Kentucky) on Friday, winning 5-1 and 7-2.

Sydney Owens and Alexia Rieckers combined on a six-hitter with no earned runs allowed in the opener. Eight different Crimson Pride players recorded one hit. Izzy Johnson and Columbus North graduate Lexi Heafner each had two RBIs.

Rieckers, Erica Henry and Calie Biekes combined on a four-hitter in the second game. Gracie Holok went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs; Johnson went 2 for 3 with a homer and two RBIs and Brown County graduate Taylor Poling went 2 for 3.

Meanwhile, the IUC baseball team fell 6-5 at Brescia. Lucas Slager went 3 for 3, Jared Ross went 2 for 4 and Peyton Blinn went 2 for 5 with a double and a triple. Starter Drew Bradley took the loss.

The softball team (7-11, 5-5) will host a doubleheader with Oakland City beginning at 1 p.m. today at Ceraland. The baseball team (8-21, 2-8) plays a doubleheader today at Brescia.
