Rookses bow out of NCAA Tournament

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Graham Rooks won his first consolation-round match at 149 pounds on Friday before dropping the second on the second day of the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

The 17th-seeded Rooks, a sixth-year senior from Columbus East, who had gone 1-1 on Thursday, won by tech fall over 31st-seeded Finn Solomon of Pitt on Friday. Rooks then lost a 13-1 major decision to seventh-seeded Tyler Kasak of Penn State.

Rooks’ brother, fifth-year senior Cayden Rooks, also had gone 1-1 on Thursday at 133 pounds. The 32nd-seed dropped an 8-0 major decision to 13th-seeded Kurt Phipps of Bucknell on Friday.
