Jacob Scruggs // South Decatur senior basketball player

Scruggs led the Orange team with 41 points and had nine rebounds in a pair of wins to earn MVP honors in Saturday’s All-Area All-Star Games.

His performance last week: “My shots were falling, and I was attacking like I always do. Those worked together, so I scored a lot of points.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I always say a prayer before my games.”

Favorite drink: “Lemonade”

Favorite food: “Indian food”

Favorite class: “Spanish”

Favorite sports team: “Kentucky”

Favorite athlete: “Kyrie Irving”

Role model: “Jesus”

Best advice: “Through perseverance, just keep your head up and focused toward God.”

Athletics goal: “I plan on playing college basketball.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Jerusalem, just to see all the cool historical features there.”

Macy Eaton // Columbus North junior track athlete

Macy Eaton

Eaton finished 23rd in the 3,200 meters in Saturday’s Hoosier State Relays, the unofficial state indoor meet.

Her performance last week: “I feel OK with it. It’s my second-fastest time in the 3,200 ever. It was a different race experience, so it was definitely a learning experience.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I usually eat the same things before races and just try to relax.”

Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”

Favorite food: “Fettuccine Alfredo”

Favorite class: “AP Stats”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University basketball”

Favorite athlete: “Caitlin Clark”

Role model: “My parents (Nathan and Anna) and my siblings (Kaden and Alexa)”

Best advice: “Try to work hard every day and always show up and stay committed.’’

Athletics goal: “For track, just to keep trying to get better and working toward by (personal records).”

If you could travel anywhere: “I want to go to Greece. It seems really pretty.”
