College sports notebook: Rutan has career day; Foster hits walkoff

RICHMOND, Ky. — Maddi Rutan hit two home runs, including a grand slam, had a career-high six RBIs and threw 5 1/3 hitless innings Wednesday to lead Eastern Kentucky to a 12-2 win against Northern Kentucky.

Rutan, a freshman from Columbus North, went 1 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs and allowed six hits and one earned run in six innings to earn the win in Friday’s 9-4 ASUN Conference victory against North Alabama. She went 1 for 4 and allowed only one hit and no runs over the final six innings of Saturday’s 2-1 loss to North Alabama.

The Colonels (26-5, 8-1) will visit Stetson on Saturday and Sunday.

Foster’s walkoff double sends Syracuse to win

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Kenzie Foster lined a game-winning walk-off RBI-double to left field Saturday to give Syracuse a 6-5 ACC win against Georgia Tech.

Foster, a freshman from Columbus East, went 1 for 3 with and RBI in Thursday’s 5-1 loss to Georgia Tech.

The Orange (16-14, 4-8) will host Canisius on Wednesday.

Norman helps Marian to victories

INDIANAPOLIS — Sierra Norman went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs Tuesday in Marian’s 12-0 first-game win and 1 for 3 with a double and three RBIs in an 8-3 second-game win against Bethel.

Norman, a senior from Columbus North, went 1 for 3 with two RBIs in Wednesday’s 9-1 first game win and 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs in a 12-7 second-game loss to Indiana Tech.

On Saturday, Norman went 1 for 2 with two RBIs in an 8-0 first-game win and scored a run in a 10-8 second-game loss to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio).

The Knights (23-5) will visit Saint Francis on Friday.

Cole nets stolen base, run for BG

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Kaylee Cole stole a base and scored a run Saturday in Bowling Green’s 5-4 win against Detroit Mercy in the first game of a doubleheader.

Lemmons helps Grenadiers to wins

Josie Lemmons went 3 for 5 with two runs scored Saturday in IU Southeast’s 13-9 River States Conference win at West Virginia Tech in the second game of a doubleheader.

Gilley improves to 2-0 for Sycamores

TERRE HAUTE — Cole Gilley pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings Friday to pick up the win in Indiana State’s 10-6 Missouri Valley Conference win against Illinois-Chicago.

Wager notches victory for UT-Martin

CARBONDALE, Ill. — Zach Wager pitched a scoreless eighth inning Tuesday to pick up the win in relief in Tennessee-Martin’s 8-7 win at Southern Illinois.

Burnett pickes up save for Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Alec Burnett earned his third save of the season Friday in Wagner’s 5-4 Northeast Conference win against Merrimack. He allowed two runs on two hits and struck out one with one walk in the ninth inning.

Burnett, a sixth-year senior from Columbus East, took the loss in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Merrimack. He allowed one run on three hits and struck out two in 1 1/3 innings.

Harry Major went 4 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs scored Thursday in Jackson College’s 12-6 win against Schoolcraft College.
