Wasil threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts and had a triple and three RBIs in Friday’s 10-0 win against Edinburgh. He also went 1 for 2 with an RBI in an 11-1 win against Southwestern (Hanover) and 2 for 3 with two triples and four RBIs in Saturday’s 17-1 win at South Ripley.
His performance last week: “I just stayed focused and stayed confident. I always tell myself confidence is key.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually, I hit 10 to 30 balls, and if I pitch, I do some arm workouts and weighted ball throws.”

Favorite athlete: “Chris Sale. For my travel team, I’m No. 41 like him, and he’s a lefty like me. I’ve always looked up to him, although I don’t throw sidearm like he does.”

Best advice: “Hard work pays off.”
Athletics goal: “To hit a home run. I was so close twice (Saturday).”

Savanna Sullivan // Columbus East senior softball player
Savanna Sullivan
Sullivan went 1 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs Friday to lead the Olympians to an 8-2 win at Brown County. On Saturday, she went 2 for 3 with a double in a 4-1 loss at Greensburg.
Her performance last week: “I feel pretty good about being able to produce some hits when we needed them the most. Against Brown County, I hit the home run, and then everybody else started getting hits.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I like to hit a lot before a game, just to get my swing down.”

Best advice: “Enjoy your friends and your time as it lasts because it goes by fast, and you never know when it will be your last time doing it.’’
Athletics goal: “To give 100 percent every time. Especially with softball, it’s sport of failure, so I just want to give 100 percent effort and hope that’s enough.”
