Bryan Edward Nelson

BRADENTON, FL

Dr. Bryan Edward Nelson Sr, 84, passed away on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Blake Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, FL, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 27, 1939, in Middlesboro, KY, son of the late Harold and Christine (nee Pursifull) Nelson.

Bryan graduated from Lowrey High School in Dearborn, MI, Class of 1957. After high school, he graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit. He then attended the University of Michigan, where he earned his medical degree.

After graduating from medical school, Bryan served with the US Army in the 101st Airborne Division for two years at Fort Campbell, KY. Following his service in the Army, he moved to Columbus, IN, where he served his community as a family practitioner for 32 years, and was warmly referred to as Doc Nelson.

Bryan briefly retired for two years after moving to Bradenton, FL in 1999. His retirement was short-lived, however, as he returned to his love of practicing medicine and serving his local community for another 18 years.

Bryan is survived by his five devoted children: his sons, Bryan and wife Tammy of Chillicothe, IL, Terry of Omaha, NE, Jarrod and wife Raquel of Huntsville, AL, Chad and wife Anne of Andover, VT, his daughter Nicole and husband Michael Mannon of Bradenton, FL; his sisters, Barbara (husband Orval Vancil) of Owensboro, KY, Elizabeth (late husband Dudley Peeler) of Asheville, NC, and Virginia (husband John Thomas) of Canton, MI, his brother Terry (wife Lynda) of Whitefish, MT, in addition to his thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grand children.
