Looking Back – April 25

Sherry Ramsey and Teresa Buis welcome one of the animal performers of the Barnes and Daily Circus to Hope on April 25, 1974. The one-night circus was sponsored by the Hope Volunteer Fire Department.

Tracy Embree, vice president of Cummins Inc.; Jacque Douglas, Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. director of special projects; Lynne Hyatt, owner of Lockett’s Ladies Shop; and Cindy Waddle, regional manager of Dora Hotels, were honored at the Columbus Area Chamber of Commerce Women in Leadership Lunch.

1999

Hundreds of visitors strolled between booths and enjoyed live entertainment on stage during the Festival of the Young Child at The Commons. Many interactive activities were available for adults and children alike, including making noodle necklaces and finger painting.

1974

Columbus North High School junior Steven L. Zeller beat an outstanding record as a high school orator by winning the national championship — and an $8,000 scholarship — in the American Legion High School Oratorical Contest in Sioux Falls, S.D. The victory was only the second for an Indiana student in the national contest.
