Bull Dogs beat Penn, fall to Jasper in Avon invite

AVON — Sixth-ranked Columbus North girls tennis split a pair of matches in Saturday’s Avon Invitational, beating No. 20 Penn 5-0 and falling to No. 4 Jasper 4-1.

Against Penn, Kathryn Wilson beat Aileen Hu 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, Aya Saad topped Anna Yoon 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles and Annabelle Sun downed Samantha Pischallo 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Lucy Bergman and Lizzie Bodart beat Scarlett Biever and Clarissa Schmitt 4-6, 6-3, (10-3) at No. 1 doubles, and Grace Conner and Lison Cloteaux defeated Ava Derby and Maren Woelfer 7-5, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Wilson, who won last year’s state singles championship, took her first loss in two years when she fell to Jasper’s Marian Hayes 1-6, 7-5, (10-8). Saad lost to Reese Mundy 7-6 (3), 6-2, and Sun beat Kiersten Sternberg 6-4, 6-3. Also for the Bull Dogs (5-2), Bergman and Bodart fell to Paige Giesler and Addison Hayes 6-0, 6-2, and Conner and Cloteaux lost to Kate Yarborough and CC Hanneman 6-1, 6-0.
