There weren’t a lot of surprises concerning local schools resulting from Tuesday’s announcement by the IHSAA of sectional groupings for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years.
Columbus North remains in a 6A football sectional with Center Grove, Franklin Central and Jeffersonville. However, Columbus East’s 5A sectional now will include East Central, Franklin and Seymour.
The Olympians and Bull Dogs remain in a Class 4A sectional for volleyball and boys and girls basketball with East Central, Franklin and Whiteland. Shelbyville, which had been a part of that sectional, dropped to 3A.
Hauser is moving down from 2A to Class A and will be in a boys and girls basketball sectional group with Trinity Lutheran, Crothersville, Jac-Cen-Del, Milan, Oldenburg Academy, Rising Sun and Shawe Memorial. All of those schools except Shawe will be in the volleyball sectional.
Edinburgh and South Decatur will be in a separate Class A sectional with Knightstown, Morristown, North Decatur, Southwestern (Shelby), Tri and Waldron.
Jennings County is moving down from 4A to 3A in basketball and volleyball and will be in a sectional group with Batesville, Franklin County, Greensburg, Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn.
Brown County will be in a 2A sectional with Austin, South Ripley, Southwestern (Hanover) and Switzerland County for boys basketball. Brownstown Central will be in that group for volleyball and girls basketball.
Jennings is in a 4A football sectional with Bedford North Lawrence, Charlestown, Connersville, Greenwood, Martinsville, Shelbyville and Silver Creek. Brown County is in a 2A football sectional with Greencastle, Linton, Mitchell, North Posey, Pike Central, South Vermillion and Sullivan. Edinburgh and South Decatur are in a Class A football sectional with Eastern Greene, Greenwood Christian Academy, Knightstown, Milan, North Decatur and West Washington.
Meanwhile, Columbus East and Columbus North will be in a 3A girls soccer sectional with Center Grove, Franklin, Greenwood and Whiteland. That boys soccer sectional also will include East Central.
Jennings remains in 3A for soccer and will be in a girls sectional with Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, New Albany and Seymour. That boys soccer sectional also will include BNL.
Hauser and Brown County will be in a Class A girls soccer sectional with GCA, Monrovia and Triton Central. Hauser and Trinity will be in a Class A boys soccer sectional with Austin, Shawe, Southwestern (Hanover) and Southwestern (Shelby).
Brown County will be in a 2A boys soccer sectional with Cascade. Danville, Edgewood, Indian Creek and Monrovia. Trinity will be in a Class A girls soccer sectional with Austin, Providence, Salem, Shawe and Southwestern (Hanover).
On Monday, the IHSAA approved the addition of boys volleyball and girls wrestling as official sports beginning next school year. Sectional groupings for those will take place at a later date.
