New CPD officer takes oath

A new Columbus police officer was sworn in by Columbus Mayor Mary Ferdon on Tuesday at Columbus City Hall.

Officer Jesse Neikirk (CPD #295) took the oath and after a short orientation period at the Columbus Police Department will begin the CPD field training program.

Neikirk most recently worked as a patrol officer for the Evansville Police Department. He is a graduate of Mount Carmel (Illinois) High School, served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years and completed two combat tours in Afghanistan, where he attained the rank of sergeant before being honorably discharged.

Neikirk went on to join the Illinois Department of Corrections where he worked for several years and attained the rank of Correctional Lieutenant.
