Zach McLean // Columbus North senior baseball player

McLean went 2 for 2 with two doubles and four RBIs in Saturday’s 7-2 win against Terre Haute South. Earlier in the week, he went 2 for 4 in a 4-2 loss at Southport and went 2 for 3 with a home run in a 3-2 win against Bloomington South.

His performance last week: “I feel like I did really good, and our team did good, too.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I always eat before a game. It doesn’t matter what, I just always make sure I eat.”

Favorite drink: “I like Blue Gatorade.”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite class: “I really enjoy Personal Finance.”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University baseball and Indianapolis Colts”

Favorite athlete: “Aaron Judge”

Role model: “My dad (Tim McLean). He’s always there for me and pushes me to do my best.”

Best advice: “Just have fun. It goes by quick.”

Athletics goal: “One of my goals was to beat (Columbus) East, which we did. My other one was (winning) conference. Now, we just have to go as far as we can.”

If you could travel anywhere: “I’d go to Australia to go to the Great Barrier Reef. It just really sounds cool.”

Payton Morris

Morris had a triple in a 5-3 win against Brownstown Central, went 1 for 3 with two RBIs in Thursday’s 2-0 win against Bloomington South, went 3 for 5 with two home runs and eight RBIs and earned the pitching victory Friday’s 15-7 win against Shelbyville and went 2 for 4 with two homers and five RBIs in Saturday’s 9-6 win against North Harrison.

Her performance last week: “Just coming off of an injury, I feel like my pitching will get there again. But my hitting, I have never felt hotter. I feel good right now.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I don’t stress over it. When I feel good, I’m good.”

Favorite drink: “Cherry Coke”

Favorite food: “Jimmy John’s”

Favorite class: “I love English.”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana University”

Favorite athlete: “(IU softball player) Alex Cooper”

Role model: “My mom (Danielle Allen).”

Best advice: “From my travel coach, Mark Llowd, ‘Just have fun, no matter what.’ I could 0 for 8 on a day, but if I’m not producing, somebody else on the team is, so be happy for them.’’

Athletics goal: “I want to play college at the highest level.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Bora Bora, because I want to swim with pigs.”
