Charles “Charlie” Leslie Brown

Charles Leslie Brown, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:45 p.m., on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Scott Pettit will officiate. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the service at the service.

Born on December 23, 1936, in Glasglow, KY, Charles was one of seven children born to Charles M. Brown and Alma (Medley) McGuire. He was united in marriage to Jean Wintworth on April 10, 1992 in Columbus, IN. She survives.

Charles, better known as Charlie to all who knew and loved him, had retired from the Holiday Inn in Indianapolis where he worked as an Inn Keeper and had owned Charlie Brown’s Lounge in Columbus. He was a member of the Kosair Shrine Club, the Masonic Lodge in Columbus, and the Elks Club. In his free time, Charles enjoyed going fishing, traveling, and playing golf. He liked being social with his friends but most of all, Charles cherished spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Jean Brown of North Vernon, survivors include sons, Marty Brown of South Carolina, and Jeffrey Brown of Florida; daughter, Stephanie Amos of Indiana, and Leslie Briner of Indiana; grandchildren, Katelyn (Tyler) Johnson, Ben Brown, Stacey Brown, Ethan Brown, Regan Brown, Natalie Coers, and Nathan Amos; nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. Brown and Alma McGuire; grandson, Skylor Walp; and siblings.
