Seavey takes USAC win at Circle City

Logan Seavey won the USAC National Sprint Car feature on Thursday at Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis. Brady Bacon, who won the night before, finished in second, followed by Daison Pursley, Ricky Lewis and Robert Ballou.

Bacon outran Kevin Thomas Jr. on Wednesday night to win his first USAC race of the season at Circle City. Pursley finished third, followed by Ballou and Chase Stockon.

Steve Peeden won the crate late model feature over Zack Burton, Marty O’Neal, Jack Dossey III and Tyler Neal.

Thornton wins Rayburn Tribute

Ricky Thornton Jr. of Martinsville won the Third Annual C.J. Rayburn Stronger Than Dirt Tribute Race on May 17 at Circle City Raceway. Thornton, who started fourth, was the third different leader of the race, taking the lead for good on Lap 23 from Josh Rice. Thornton earned $10,000 for the win in the Northern Allstars Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned event.

Tyler Erb finished in second, followed by Josh Rice, Tanner English and James Rice. Completing the top 10 were Jordan Wever, David Webb, Daulton Wilson, Zak Blackwood and Todd Brennan.

Brent McMillan of North Vernon won the pure stock feature at Circle City over Jesse Simmons, Josh Turner, Lee J. Hall and Sheldon Oberle. Blake Daniels of Franklin took the crown vic feature race over Justin Brown, Ryan Woods, Anthony Finley and Chris Jennings. Conner Garrison of Bloomington took the hornet division feature over Chris Hillman Jr., Jerry Gibson Jr., Cordell Moore and Grag Marlow.

Erb wins at Lawrenceburg

Tyler Erb led all 35 laps to win the Northern Allstars Late Model Dirt Series main event on May 18 at Lawrenceburg Speedway. It was the first appearance by the series in 17 years at Lawrenceburg.

Devin Gilpin finished in second with Kody Evans, David Webb and Seth Daniels competing the top-five drivers. The rest of the top 10 finishers were Rod Conley, Jared Bailey, Tanner English, Jordan Wever and Tyler Collins.

Several win at Brownstown

The weather turned out to be great for “Saturday Night Racing” at Brownstown Speedway on May 18 with five racing divisions on hand for the night.

Jug Wethington jumped to the early lead in the P3 Graphix Indiana Late Model Series Pro Late Model feature with Steve Peeden and Tyler Cain in tow. Peeden of Martinsville took over the lead near the halfway point of the race. Cain would run down Peeden, and the pair took the white flag door to door. Cain briefly took the lead in Turn 1, but Peeden fought back to retake the lead heading down the backstretch. The duo came off Turn 4 battling hard to the finish. Peeden hung on to the lead to get his first ILMS win of the year.

Tyler Cain took second ahead of Jug Wethington, Brent Lee and Marty O’Neal. Rounding out the top 10 were Alan Magner, Tyler Neal, Zack Burton, Caleb Schryer and Zac Gibbs.

In Pewter Hall Super Stocks, Blake Hull of Nebraska worked his way from his fifth starting spot to take the lead on Lap 9. Matt Boknecht caught Hull and was applying the pressure until a late race caution halted the action. With a two-lap shootout, Hull pulled away to be the first repeat winner of the year in Super Stocks. Matt Boknecht, Tucker Chastain, Greg Amick and Tanner Chastain completed the top five.

Josh Turner of Edinburgh found Victory Lane again in Crossroads Truck Equipment Pure Stocks. Ross Smith made the race interesting after a late race caution bunched the field, but Turner led flag-to-flag to record his fourth win of the racing season. Ross Smith, Cody Ellison, J.T. Huffman and Tommy Fleenor followed Turner at the finish.

In Crown Vic feature action, Dustin Cross of Scottsburg led from Lap 5 to the checkers to record his second straight win and third win of the year. Ryan Woods, Dustin Wiggins, Dalton Fleenor and Todd Cain rounded out the top five.

The Hornet division feature saw Chris Hillman Jr. take the early lead, with Skylar Ashley staying right on Hillman’s bumper. Hillman left the race with mechanical issues near the halfway mark. Ashley of Bedford took over the lead and go on to park in Victory Lane for the first time ever at Brownstown. Skylar Ashley led Curtis Roccia, Jeremy Shemwell, Michael Brewer and James Simmons at the checkers.

From 70 years ago in 1954 at Brownstown, Jim Quillen won the feature race over Calvin Gilstrap. Quillen also won the feature at Columbus Speedway the same weekend.

From 60 years ago in 1964 at Brownstown, Joe King won the late model feature over Bearcat Chaplin, Bud Montgomery and Gene Petro. Petro took the figure-8 feature over Marshall Weddle, Sherman McElfresh and Paul Crockett.

Also from this weekend 60 years ago at Bloomington, Cecil Beavers came from last to win the super-modified feature over Bill Dugger, Bob Kinser, Wayne Wolfe and Calvin Gilstrap. Rodney Ritter won the figure-8 race over Sheldon Kinser, Sherman McElfresh and Lowell Arthur. Mack Pace won the stock car feature over Buford Ward, Sheldon Kinser and Lowell Arthur.

From 50 years ago this weekend in 1974 at Brownstown, Jim Curry won the late model feature over Russ Petro, Luther Burton, Bob Fleetwood and Woody Smith.

From 50 years ago, the Columbus Kart Club opened their season with Pete Willoughby, Frank Hoban, David Murray, Don Templeton, Bill Fisher, Dan Londeree and Mike Tobias all winning their division races.

Also from 50 years ago this weekend at Haubstadt, before 5,000 fans, the Twin 50 feature races went to Butch Wilkerson (sprints) and Tom Helfrich (late models).

From 40 years ago this weekend in 1984 at Brownstown, Pat Patrick won the late model feature over Steve Barnett, Kenny Simpson, Dusty Chapman and Pete Willoughby. Danny Blackwell took te modified street stock feature over Bill Norton, Joe Burdette, Marty Thompson and Karl Roethemeier.

From 1984 at Twin Cities, Steve Boley won the late model feature over Dee Kramer, Merrill Wilson, Johnny Mefford and Ron Hoover. Merrill Downey won the modified street stock feature over Buddy Franks, Willie Sallee, Larry Gingery and Mark Barber. Ray Hughes won the street stock feature over Randy Lucas, Steve Kimberlin, Dennis Barber and Ron Lucas.
