William M. Renshaw

William “Bill” M. Renshaw, 87, passed away August 2, 2024, at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Bill was born August 19, 1936, in Darwin, Illinois, the son of Ruth and Harmon Renshaw. Bill married Nancy Fields June 7, 1966 in LaFayette, Georgia.

Bill graduated from Marshall High School in Illinois in 1954 where he excelled in sports, especially track where he ran the low and high hurdles earning a scholarship to the University of Illinois.

After one year of college, Bill became a union iron worker and was a member of Local #22 for 40 years. He worked on many buildings in Columbus and the surrounding area including North and East High Schools, North Christian Church and the City-County Building to name a few.

Bill grew up in the small town of Darwin on the Illinois side of the Wabash River. He loved fishing and he loved the river, but he really wanted to be a cowboy. He was 20 years old when he got his first horse. Horses would play a big part in his life for the next 60 years. He showed Quarter horses, broke colts to ride and was one of the best farriers in the area.

Bill was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge since 1957. He loved fishing, coon hunting, gun and knife collecting, horses, sports, birds, his friends, family and his church. He attended and was a member of Ogilville Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nancy; son, Anthony Renshaw of Columbus; daughter, Elizabeth Trilling of Columbus; granddaughters, Katie Finchum of Columbus, Adeline Hamilton of Columbus and Sarah Ward of Ohio; sister, Erna White of Illinois; and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sally Sager.

A Masonic memorial service conducted by members of St. Johns Masonic Lodge No. 20 and the funeral service conducted by Dr. Martin E. Wright and Reverend Roy Hendershot will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver &Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Bill will be laid to rest at Mt. Healthy Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ogilville Christian Church.
