South Decatur falls

WOLCOTT —South Decatur was tied with Tri-County 6-6 in the second quarter Saturday, but the Cavaliers pulled away for a 20-6 win.

Jacobi Shook scored the Cougars touchdown on a 2-yard run. Coach Garry Sauley said South Decatur (0-2) was led defensively by end Trent Nobbe.

“He did a really good job on his side, but then they picked on the other side,” Sauley said. “Offensively, we ran the ball real well at times, but we’re going to have to start completing some passes.”

Sauley thought the Cougars showed improvement over their season-opening 49-13 loss to North Decatur.

“We played better than we did last week,” Sauley said. “We still have a long way to go. I told the kids we just have to keep getting better every day, and hopefully, eventually things will go our way.”

Orioles top Trinity

SEYMOUR — Trinity Lutheran rallied from a 22-14 deficit to take a 30-22 lead Friday night, but Indiana Deaf came back to post a 38-30 overtime win.

After a pair of Orioles touchdowns, Woods returned a fumble 30 yards for a score and ran in the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 14-14. But Indiana Deaf scored again before halftime to take a 22-14 lead.

Goecker ran 15 yards for a touchdown and threw a 2-point conversion pass to Jack Marksberry to tie the game at 22-22. Goecker then hit Trent Shoemaker with a 50-yard scoring pass and ran for the 2-point conversion for a 30-22 lead early in the fourth quarter.

After the Orioles tied the game with 3:10 remaining, they intercepted a pass in the end zone to force overtime.

“Tyler was amazing tonight because he threw the ball well, ran the ball well and made amazing tackles,” Trinity coach Mike Wilson said. “He put us in a position to win, and, to be honest, he started dominating the game.”
